Ellijay-Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority
Additions to the City of Ellijay Water Pollution Control Plant
Increase treatment capacity to 4.0 mgd

Under construction

The Ellijay Water Pollution Control Plant was operating with a permitted treatment capacity of 2.5 mgd and consisted of two primary clarifiers, vertical loop reactors, two additional aeration basins, two final clarifiers (not in service), two circular final clarifiers, a chlorine contact chamber, an aerobic digester, and sludge dewatering equipment.

The plant was operating at 95% of treatment capacity. To increase the plant from 2.5 mgd to 4.0 mgd required modifications to the existing aeration basins, aerobic digester, tertiary filters, additions to the chlorine contact chamber and construction of a new screen structure, aerobic digester and chemical storage area.

Bids were received in November 2006. The construction contract was awarded to H. C. Coleman and Co., Inc. in the amount of $6,688,700.

Estimated completion date is September 2008.

Environmental engineering involves pollution control of air, water and  waste disposal to protect the health and safety of the public.

G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers provides a full range of civil engineering services helping communities and municipalities build and maintain their infrastructures. We specialize in water and sewerage system improvements while providing additional engineering services to support planned growth and development within the community.
Hydraulic engineering involves the flow of fluids, specifically surface water and groundwater. G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers performs modeling of both water and sewer flows; provides modeling and analysis for reservoir systems, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, storm water management and various other water resource modeling using WaterGEMS, H20Net, SWMM or similar software.
Engineering students and graduates will find a challenging opportunity working directly with project engineers while fulfilling the requirements of their co-operative or internship education programs.
