Indian Creek Water Pollution Control Plan
Locust Grove, Georgia
New 1.5 mgd WPCP and Expansion to 3.0 mgd

Project Description: Construction of a new water pollution control plant; a raw sewage pump station, grit removal system, sequencing batch reactor units, tertiary filter, ultraviolet disinfection system, sludge holding tank, sludge dewatering building, control building, maintenance building and standby generator.

Scope of services provided: Met with City personnel to discuss scope of project; prepared Preliminary Engineering Report consisting of recommendations, cost estimates, implementation schedule and possible funding sources. We prepared the Watershed Monitoring Plan and the subsequent Watershed Assessment Report. We prepared an anti-degradation report, the Design Development Report and Environmental Information Document; prepared information for and attended public hearings; prepared the NPDES Permit application; prepared plans, bid documents and construction specifications; obtained EPD approval of plans and specifications; received construction bids; prepared bid tabulation and letter of recommendation of contract award; prepared contract documents between owner and contractor; conducted preconstruction conference; issued notice to proceed. We checked shop drawings, provided on-site resident inspection, reviewed and approved contractors request for payment. We prepared, submitted and obtained approval of the Operation and Maintenance Manual prior to placing the plant in operation. Record Drawings were provided to the owner upon completion.

Construction cost: $ 6,456,568 Completed 2005

The City has approved plans for additional residential and commercial developments that will require additional capacity in the plant. A wasteload allocation has been received from Georgia Department of Natural Resources/Environmental Protection Division for a stream discharge of 3.0 mgd. The City began preliminary engineering work in Fall 2007.

Environmental engineering involves pollution control of air, water and  waste disposal to protect the health and safety of the public.

G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers provides a full range of civil engineering services helping communities and municipalities build and maintain their infrastructures. We specialize in water and sewerage system improvements while providing additional engineering services to support planned growth and development within the community.
Hydraulic engineering involves the flow of fluids, specifically surface water and groundwater. G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers performs modeling of both water and sewer flows; provides modeling and analysis for reservoir systems, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, storm water management and various other water resource modeling using WaterGEMS, H20Net, SWMM or similar software.
Engineering students and graduates will find a challenging opportunity working directly with project engineers while fulfilling the requirements of their co-operative or internship education programs.
