Case Studies - Rockmart WPCP

Additions to the Water Pollution Control Plant
Rockmart, Georgia
Increase treatment capacity from 1.2 mgd to 3.0 mgd

Description of Project: Modifications to the raw sewage pump station; construction of a new grit chamber; construct new sequencing batch reactors; construct new chlorine contact chamber; modifications to existing aerobic digesters; construct maintenance building, blower building and modifications to existing control building.

Scope of services provided: Met with City personnel to discuss scope of project; prepared NPDES Permit application; prepared plans, bid documents and construction specifications; obtained EPD approval of plans and specifications; received construction bids; prepared bid tabulation and letter of recommendation of contract award; prepared contract documents between owner and contractor; conducted preconstruction conference; issued notice to proceed; checked shop drawings; provided on-site resident inspection; reviewed and approved contractors request for payment; provided record drawings to the owner.

Total construction cost: $3,639,565 Completed 1997

G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers provides a full range of civil engineering services helping communities and municipalities build and maintain their infrastructures. We specialize in water and sewerage system improvements while providing additional engineering services to support planned growth and development within the community.
Hydraulic engineering involves the flow of fluids, specifically surface water and groundwater. G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers performs modeling of both water and sewer flows; provides modeling and analysis for reservoir systems, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, storm water management and various other water resource modeling using WaterGEMS, H20Net, SWMM or similar software.
Engineering students and graduates will find a challenging opportunity working directly with project engineers while fulfilling the requirements of their co-operative or internship education programs.
