Additions to the City of West Point Water Pollution Control Plant Increase treatment capacity to 2.0 mgd
The City of West Point had a water pollution control plant with a permitted capacity of 1.0 mgd and consisted of an influent screen structure, two aeration basins, two final clarifiers and a chlorine contact chamber. Sludge handling facilities consisted of an aerobic digester, a sludge holding tank and sludge drying beds. A small control building contained a laboratory, restroom, chlorine room, motor control center, return sludge and waste sludge pumps and a storage area. No major improvements had been made since the plant was placed in operation in 1972.
The City increased the treatment capacity to 2.0 mgd to meet projected demands from the KIA Automotive Plant and to maintain service for existing customers.
Additions to the plant included construction of a new influent structure, new aeration basins, new clarifiers, an ultra violet disinfection system, return sludge pump station, sludge dewatering building and modifications to the existing aeration basins and control building.
The total estimated project cost was $10,156,000. Construction was completed on the upgrades in Fall 2009.
